At the University of Aberdeen, Marian earned a Master of Laws (LLM) in Oil and Gas Law. While encouraging people to look beyond their immediate interests and consider long-term benefits, LLM Oil and Gas provided a path with a deeper meaning, and more forward-thinking to understand the industry and how the law functions around it. Her research focuses on upstream and midstream policies, including governance, commerce, shipping, and petroleum developments. Marian is well-versed in international law and the regulatory frameworks governing the development and management of the petroleum industry. Furthermore, Marian is highly knowledgeable about research ethics and uses her knowledge to manage the legal aspects of oil and gas exploration and production.

Marian Harbi, is the CEO of Jasper Petroleum limited based in the United Kingdom, the first consultancy energy company in East Africa directed by a woman; dedicated to working with East African Governmental institutes to create the right conditions to maximize opportunity and investment in the benefits of the whole East African economy. Jasper Petroleum works with Somalia’s governmental institutions at the moment to help and support building their Oil and Gas Industry, and Energy systems. By utilizing the strength and scale of these countries’ investment opportunities, Jasper can ensure that the Oil and Gas sector as a whole continues to thrive and deliver in East Africa.
