Partnerships and Collaboration with SONRREC

SONRREC’s mission is to enforce and protect Somalia’s natural resources to be used sustainably to provide national economic gain while minimizing impacts on the ecological system. We collaborate to multiply the result with our partners, and collaboration is at the core of our work.

In its role as a center of excellence for Somalia’s compliance ecosystem, SONRREC provides sustainable solutions to conserve and protect ecosystem services and supports the Somali government’s and citizens’ interaction with the natural environment. Our existing compliance partnerships include Food and Technology, Water, Energy & Food Security Nexus, Sea and Society, and Human & Nature. SONRREC’s emerging partnerships extend to every field of regulated human activity that impacts the terrestrial and ocean, including pollution, poaching, wildlife trafficking, IUU fishing, and deforestation.

We collaborate with various organizations, including government agencies, national and international NGOs, and academic and research institutions. SONRREC’s role is to inform our partners about the extent and impact of human activity on the land and ocean in Somalia – so that our partners can infer the implications for compliance in their specialty area. We also provide training and capacity building to increase our partners’ ability to act against non-compliance, including training on modern technology systems such as (remote sensing and artificial intelligence) and training on current enforcement practices and policy and legislation development.
