What We Do

SONRREC is a leading research organization in the Horn Africa which was established in 2016 and it is the sole research center and the first of it is kind that working in the field of nature resources.

It mandated in the fields of natural resources (Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Water, Petroleum & Minerals, and Environment) and has achieved an imperative place in Somalia and the region for its admirable activities. It is involved in data gathering and analysis, research, field projects, advocacy, and education. SONRREC’s policy is to influence, inspire and assist societies throughout the Somalia to conduct research, capacity development and consultancy services on development and sustainable of natural resources for socio-economics development to ensure that any exploitation of natural resources is equitable and environmentally sustainable.

Over the past five years, SONRREC has widened its focus beyond research and publication and now incorporates issues related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its programs. SONRREC’s aim is not only to sensitize and mobilize the public in exploitation of nature resources but also it does attempt to influence the actions of governments, donors, international development agencies, business and other stakeholders for the sustainability of natural resources by providing researches and recommendation, and through building partnerships. The excellency activties of the center is recognized by the public for accumulating and publishing the natural resources fields which measures the conservation status of country’s natural resources.

SONRREC has a membership of professionals, scholars, academicians and students. Some 20 scientists and experts participate in the work of SONRREC commands on a voluntary basis. It employs almost 10 full-time staff in more than 5 countries.
