Abdirahim Ibrahim Sheik Heile is the Director of Fisheries at the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of the Federal Government of Somalia. In January 2019, he was appointed the Director to Fisheries; ensuring activities are aligned to the strategic direction and mandate of the Ministry.
Abdirahim has over 8 years of experience, covering fisheries and marine resources, working in fisheries policy, management, and development programs. He has participated in several research and development projects at national, regional, and international levels. Within these multidisciplinary projects, Abdirahim has co-authored scientific publications including peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and book chapters. Abdirahim has won numerous international travel grants to attend conferences and has been honored as an outstanding young fisheries management expert and policy development specialist. He has conducted short-term consultancies in fisheries and value chains for DFID, DANIDA, World Bank, and USAID.
Mr. Sheik Heile graduated with a BSc in Biology and Chemistry and MBA from Benadir University, Somalia, and University Utara Malaysia respectively. Abdirahim has attended several international professional training courses in fisheries, resources management related fields. He participated in advanced training on research excellence for governance and public policy in Africa.
Abdirahim holds membership in three professional and academic bodies. Over the past year, he has been involved in the North American Association for Fisheries Economists (NAAFE) an international group of industry, government, and academic practitioners of fisheries economics
